Christ Church Newton Parishioner Seeks Kidney Donation

Help Kiana by Donating a Kidney

At the age of 16, Christ Church parishioner Kiana Grant was stricken with lupus nephritis, an autoimmune disease which attacks the kidneys. Now 22, Kiana is in need of a kidney transplant. Despite receiving dialysis treatments three times a week, she maintains a full course load in her in pursuit of a Master's degree. Kiana is searching for a living altruistic kidney donor; a transplant from a living donor offers the best chance for working for several years and Kiana cannot receive a donation from deceased donor due to allocation policies. Unfortunately, there are no suitable donors in Kiana's immediate family, so an appeal is being made to the community.

The transplant can take place at a time convenient for both the donor and recipient. The donor must be in good health and have normal kidney function. Medical expenses for the donor will be covered under the recipient's health insurance plan. Donors can expect to live a normal, healthy life.

Those who are interested in learning more about donating a kidney to Kiana Grant are encouraged to contact her mother, Bobbie Grant, at 973-726-4595. Information is also available by calling the St. Barnabas Living Donor Medical Team at 973-322-5346 or by visiting www.barnabashealth.org/livingdonor.
